My wife and I are trying to decide between the Alps and Dolomites vs the Switzerland trip July 2019. We were on the Warsaw to Prague trip last summer which was our first Tauck trip and we loved it. We were planning to do the Switzerland trip when I read a few reviews from prior travellers who felt there was too much bus/train time and that it was too rushed with two night maximum stays per hotel and one night in St. Moritz. One reviewer said he did back to back Alps/Dolomites followed by the Switzerland trip. He greatly enjoyed the Alps but was disappointed with the Switzerland trip. I understand there is great variability in what people are looking for and how they perceive trips. The Switzerland trip is classified as activity level 2 and pace 3 while the Alps is activity 3 and pace 2. We are interested in being able to get out and walk more but would love the Swiss scenery. I am sure we would have a great time on either of these trips but would like to hear from those who have experienced these trips personally or know of those that have. I would especially like to know whether you feel that this trip should be avoided by people who want to be fairly active people who want to be have at least an hour a day to be out and active would be disappointed by this trip. Thank you in advance.

I gave my take on this question some time ago- check out this thread: https://www.tauck.com/yaf/default.aspx?g=posts&m=47316#post47316 Read my other comments and see photos in my posts in the UA&D forum archive and posts in the Switzerland forum archives. We haven't taken the Crown Jewel tour, but overall I liked all the other places we visited on Ultimate Alps over Switzerland (our tour went to Davos but not Lucerne). Most land tours can seem rushed at times and no doubt there are some relatively long bus rides, but they are broken up into manageable segments. On our ultimate alps, except for Salzburg where we spent two nights, the most we spent at any location was two nights. There are plenty of opportunities to stretch your legs on Ultimate Alps during free time and guided walking tours in Munich, Salzburg, the Cortina (in the Dolomites), Davos, and Lucerne. p.s. Richard, please delete your two duplicate posts. Thanks.

OK. Don’t know if you will see this British but you should. We could actually be at the coffee plantation at the same time tomorrow. But, we just did the theater, gold museum, and ox cart factory today. The Costa Rica Marriott is on my top three list. Both Eloise and I wished we had stayed at the ‘resort’ ... fabulous place. I think you will do that ‘theater’ day, day after tomorrow. I think you are really into the art and museum thing, but this is eight hours in a bus for a little art and a little theater. The ox cart really was interesting, and it was the highlight of the day ... other than getting back to this beautiful resort. Just one opinion.

You will want to bring both sets of shoes as some of the restaurants are in the hotels. There are also a few inside activities where you likely won't want to have to wear clunky boots and deal with sweaty feet! Have you been on a Tauck tour before? My husband and I went to the Grand Canyon with them 4 years ago. One thing I wish we had known ahead of time is that people tend to dress nicer for dinner (slacks and Oxford/button down shirt for men, dress pants and a blouse for women). Hubby and I only packed jeans & t-shirts only so we felt a bit under-dressed. We leave on Sunday, Jan. 27th. It's almost time!!! Hope you have a great trip. Sandy

The tiny archipelago of volcanic islands 600 miles west of South America in the vast Pacific is unique in many ways. But it seems a most unlikely place to alter the course of history. And yet, in a very real way it did. It can really be said that these islands played an important role in shaping the destiny of humankind.
